The Homeschool Mother's Journal: Week One

The Homeschool Chick

I'm joining The Homeschool Chick and many other homeschool mothers for this week's Homeschool Mother's Journal. I think this is such a great idea! Read on to hear about our week:

In my life this week...

Not too much going on this week - no doctor appointments or meetings. My son, hubby and myself are all getting over head colds/sinus issues. (I'm ready for SPRING!) I have to babysit Monday - Thursday for about 2 hours or so and of course we have our normal housekeeping and homeschooling. I'm enjoying getting into a routine with hubby's new work schedule. Even if it does mean getting up at 5 AM (GASP!) I like having time to myself in the morning to start my chores and to reflect on what I have to do that day.

In our homeschool this week...

Today was a bad day for schooling. I heard lots of "no" and even more "I don't want to!" But luckily I'm not alone...I read a post at Learning Laughter Love about having one of THOSE days - you know the kind we're talking about! It made me feel better to know that we all have them. The rest of this week is going to be focused mainly on reading since Zeke is dying to read - we've been working hard on making words from letters and sounding things out, reading beginner/primer books, etc.

Places we're going and people we're seeing...

Today we went to the library and checked out a small pile of books to keep us busy! Other than going to the house where I babysit, we have no other field trips or visits planned.

My favorite thing this week was...

Well, this week is still young...so we shall see! :-)

What's working/not working for us...

Getting the kids up earlier seems to be working pretty well - Zeke has more time to do some things before the baby gets up and starts distracting him. BUT we need to work on this "I hate school" attitude he's developed recently! I know he hasn't felt good but he really just hasn't been wanting to do anything I suggest.

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have...

I'm already tentatively planning for first grade this coming fall. I'm debating about what curriculum to use. I know for sure that I want to use one rather than just pick and choose different things myself. I'm looking into My Father's World - it seems like it might be a good fit for us - but I'd like to talk to some people who've actually used it to hear what they thought about it.

A photo to share...
