The Homeschool Mother's Journal 7

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

I got behind on blogging so this kind of covers what we've been doing in our homeschool over the last two weeks or so. And it's pretty picture heavy so I put it behind a cut again! :)

In my life this week...
On the days it's been nice, we've definitely been trying to go out. Zeke enjoyed writing the alphabet all down the sidewalk one day - and then we played a game where I called out a letter and he had to try and jump to it.

Unfortunately, we live in Indiana: The Bi-Polar Weather State so a day or two after we were enjoying the weather outside without coats, it decided to snow. Meh. Bah humbug. We've been talking about the seasons a lot so so it was pretty funny that morning when Zeke got up bellowed, "MOOOOOOMM! WHY IS WINTER AGAIN?!"

In our homeschool this week...
Since the weather got cold and blah again, we ended up spending a lot of time playing. The Batman Preschool Pack was a great download because Zeke and Ellie both want to play with it almost daily.

We've also been using Confession of a Homeschooler's Bottle Cap Letters a lot too. (Although I made ours differently - we printed them out black & white, colored them, laminated them and then cut them out.) Zeke likes doing letter hunts and spelling different words out with them.

The boy does have clothing on, I promise! He likes to run around the house in his underwear a lot of the time, though.
Places we're going and people we're seeing...
I got to go on a lovely night out the Friday before last with my Mom, her sister Krissi and a family friend, Cathy to an event called Ladies Unity Night. We went to the best German restaurant ever, listened to some inspiring worship music and got to hear...Patsy Clairmont! It was a really nice night out.

We also went to Craft Night this past Friday at Cathy's house. Our little group meets up every other Friday or so and works on scrapbooking or other projects. The kids had a ball running around their house and playing with their Thomas the Train stuff. I had to practically drag them away! I didn't get much done on my projects since I ended up helping my Mom with something she was doing for her job - but that's okay! (I don't usually get much done anyway because I end up talking more than working.) We keep joking my Mom about a certain hat she's fond of and all planned to wear funny hats that evening...well, my Mom turned the tables and bought us ALL hats just like hers!

Senor Zeke!
My favorite thing this week was...
On the way home from Craft Night, Zeke & I were discussing different people. He was asking why Cathy's son had went to bed. I told him that he had a job he had to go to tomorrow so he had to get some rest. He asked if Cathy had a job and I said no, she didn't. He said, "Yeah she does, Momma. She's a lady and she takes care of her home. Just like you!" :)

What's working/not working for us...
Do you remember me writing awhile back about Zeke "doing school" with another family member sometimes? Well we did that. He spent the night with my Mom on a Thursday and when they got up the next day they took their time and did his homeschooling stuff. He enjoyed it and my Mom said he did well so I think we'll keep doing that every once in awhile! I think it's good because it gives him a change of scenery and a different teacher to interact with - and it gives me a little bit of a break and a chance to refocus.

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have...
I'm really hoping to *maybe* go to the Indiana Association of Home Educators Convention this summer but I'm not sure yet. For anybody that's been to a homeschool convention, what words of advice do you have for me?
