A Rough Night.

Tonight has been a rough night. (I actually wrote this a couple nights ago but am just getting around to posting it.)

Ellie cut her foot open when her & Zeke were playing earlier this evening. I was putting some clothes away I'd just got done folding and I heard her scream. She came running with Zeke close behind insisting she "was just fine." She lifted up her poor little foot and there was blood running in little rivulets all down the back of it. (Zeke said "Oops. Maybe she's not fine.") It was a long thin cut but I got it cleaned, dabbed with antibiotic ointment and bandaged. She was off and running in no time...

And while I was on the phone with my Dad, she colored herself a green mustache, beard and gloves with a marker she found on the floor. (I thought I had confiscated all the markers to a high-up spot on the shelf but apparently some are still floating around.)

Sigh.

Then Zeke got miffed and threw a giant fit because I told him he was going to have to get ready for bed. Perfectly normal response? No. I believe this happened for three reasons:
1. He was up too late. I wasn't paying close enough attention to the time. Once he gets over-tired, he is much more prone to act badly.
2. He was able to get outside this past weekend, get some fresh air and run off energy. Today we were cooped up in the house because of the rain and because I was busy around the house, he ended up watching too much TV. (Too much TV always hypes him up and just generally makes him act worse. Sometimes I just feel like throwing the TV out the window...but that's another post for another time. Although, if I remember correctly, I think I've touched on it before...)
3. He just didn't want to go to bed. Generally he's not too bad about going to bed but sometimes he just gets mad because he doesn't want to miss out on anything.

This was not the usual complaining or whining either. This was a full out tantrum – screaming, flailing arms, stomping, etc. I thought we were over this stage (or at least maybe nearing the end of it?) but apparently I was mistaken. Five minutes after his head hit the pillow though, he was snoring. So obviously he WAS tired because he very rarely falls asleep that fast.

I got Ellie to bed not long after that, worked on some different things until about 2 AM and had just laid on my head contentedly on my pillow...when I heard screaming. Ellie was awake and definitely letting me know. I'm still not sure why she woke up but she refused to go back to bed.

I repeat...sigh. But tomorrow is another day!

  2. Bedtime is the worst at my house! It doesn't seem to matter if we've ran a marathon or been cooped all day, it always goes down the same! Glad to see I'm not the only sufferer.
    Came in from MBC. =)
