The Homeschool Mother's Journal 8

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

I'm not quite sure why I number these journal entries. I started out numbering them according to how many weeks I'd been writing them...but that's fallen by the wayside with life and such. So this is the 8th one I've done but it's not the 8th week or anything! Anyway, read on to hear what we've been doing at Addison Academy over the past few weeks:

In my life this week…
Easter has come and gone and the kids loved it. They had a great time hunting eggs at our church and then later at my Gramma's. Zeke started baseball and has about 2 games a week, depending on the weather. He's really enjoying it and learning more & more about the game as time goes on. He and Big Daddy have also been enjoying searching for mushrooms. (Zeke's showing some off that he found in the picture below.)

In our homeschool this week…

We've done a variety of different activities over the last few weeks - games, handwriting practice, making crafts, reading Bible stories, coloring pages, making lapbooks, playing (of course!) and block games to name a few. We recently ordered our new homeschool curriculum (we're using several different things, I'll write a post about it later) through Rainbow Resource Center and I have to say that I'm VERY glad that we have a plan made up of what we want to do for the next year. I'm not good about planning things on the fly!

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

We've seen a lot of people over the last few weeks! We saw lots of family on Easter. We've been trying to meet up once a week or so with the mommas & kiddos from our little playgroup. My Aunt and her kids came down yesterday to visit. We also got to meet my cousin's girlfriend - who we hopefully didn't scare off with our craziness. :)

My favorite thing this week was…

Giving the kids giant pieces of construction paper to make maps. They drew our house and other things in relation to it - Gramma's house, the store, church, etc. It made for some interesting discussions about distance and time like:
How long does it take to drive to Gramma's?
How many miles do you think it is to the store?

What’s working/not working for us…

We LOVED doing the Easter Lapbook from Scripture Adventures! It was a lot of fun, had a ton of different activities in it and was really nice looking. I am definitely going to incorporate more lapbooks into our schooling.

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have…

We're getting ready to start a "new year" of curriculum. We made the decision to school (mostly) year round and I'm we're ready for a fresh start. We won't be schooling 24/7 (we'll be taking off time for holidays, field trips, busy times in our lives, family trips, etc.) but we think this schedule will work out better and help us to keep ourselves on track. So tomorrow we embark on a new schedule with some new materials and *hopefully* a brighter outlook!

A photo, video, link, or quote to share…

Zeke LOVES having a computer in his room! Thanks Papa! :)

The centering of the pictures & stuff on this entry is all crazy but I've tried to fix it a zillion times and can' I give up!

  1. We do learning activities year-round too. It is so hot where we are at, that I prefer to take more time off during the cooler months (Oct-April) and get our inside/formal school type work done in the hot summer months!
