CHD Awareness Week 2012

Today marks the start of Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week 2012. I try to participate in this every year in some form or another because this is a subject near and dear to "my heart." Pardon the pun. :)

Did you know that 1 in 100 babies in America are born with a Congenital Heart Defect or Congenital Heart Disease every year? They are the #1 birth defect worldwide. More babies/children have CHD than all forms of childhood cancer combined and nearly twice as many die, yet funding for cancer research is 5 times greater then CHD research. It is a proven fact that the earlier a CHD is detected and treated, the more likely the affected child will survive and have less long term health complications.
