One of the families within our local homeschool group recently decided to start an Art Club. Art is something that has always interested me. I like doing crafty things but I'm not too great of an artist. Anyway, this family started a weekly art club with a different topic or subject each week. Our first week one of the young girls gave an instructional lesson on homemade cards. After she finished demonstrating, the kids all picked out materials and got to work creating their own cards. They used scrapbooking paper, premade card templates, construction paper, shaped hole punches, markers, and other assorted things to make cards of their own. After the kids got done with their creations, they had snack time and then went outside to play games and play on the playground. We had a really great time and are looking forward to going this week when our lesson will be about polymer clay. In addition to learning about other types of art, we're also going to be taking a field trip to a museum and making & delivering crafts to the elderly at a local nursing home. Homeschooling readers ~ have you ever been a part of a co-op art class or club? Share your thoughts in the comments!

Your art club sounds like a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteI would love an art club! How fun!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up!
No problem! :)
DeleteWhat a great idea, to have your own art club! A few of my friends have taken their children to a local art "school" for kids, they learn about a specific artist and then make a painting in that style... for example they find out about Van Gogh, and then paint sunflowers. A popular one is Pollack and his splatter paintings, lots of messy fun! One friend was amazed when his almost-4-year-old saw a crow, and said "Jackson Pollack had a pet crow. He invented splatter painting." :)
ReplyDeleteOh how fun! That sounds like something mine would really enjoy too!
