Addison Academy: September, Week One

  • In my life this week…
We had lots of rain! Yay! (After a summer of drought, we're now super excited to see rain as silly as that may be.) We celebrated my parents 27th wedding anniversary at a Labor Day cookout with some extended family. The kids ran around outside the whole time, shooting Nerf guns and just generally running around like crazy people. They were soaked, smelly, and filthy - but they had a good time.
Today we worked outside almost all day - pulling and cutting down weeds, mowing, picking up sticks, cleaning up the yard - and I'm EXHAUSTED. We also started a house project which has turned the house into a HUGE mess...but it will be worth it in the end. Hopefully. ;)
  • In our homeschool this week…
In History we learned more about Labor Day and why we celebrate it. Zeke continued working on phonics, reading, math and writing. We also did some fun Science experiments with things we had around the house. A few were flops, but most worked out pretty well. The kids favorite one was making slime. (I'll have a post about it later this coming week!)
  • Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
We went to Art Club on Wednesday and learned about polymer clay. A local artist came and showed us the jewelery and art she's made with clay. The kids got to take a turn and made a few different things - Ellie made Hello Kitty and Zeke created a skateboard, a box for his Dad, and braid that I helped with a little.
We got the phone call that Zeke will be starting soccer this coming week - he has a practice, a workshop, and his first game all this coming week! Whew. Let the soccer season begin, I guess!
  • My favorite thing this week was…
Going to the midwife for my monthly visit on Friday! Why? Because I got to hear the heartbeat. It was 148 and every time the midwife put the Doppler wand over the baby he/she kicked back! It was too cute.
  • What’s working/not working for us…
Spotify! I've heard of it obviously but didn't think we'd be able to use it out here in the boonies with our limit based internet...but hubby downloaded it, began using it, and then shared it with me. It rocks! Not only because I can listen to music but we also utilized it in our homeschool - we listened to it during music/dance break time. :)
  • I’m reading…
I just finished Stephen King's "Under the Dome." It was a HUGE but pretty good book. Not one of my favorites but I did enjoy the general storyline. We'll be visiting the library a little later this week.
  • I’m cooking…
I made a really good pot roast this past week - and I don't say that to brag...hubby told me he liked it a lot. I'm going to be looking up some other crock pot recipes since soccer is getting ready to start.
  • I’m grateful for…
Something fun we got to do Saturday night - my Aunt and I went on a little date with our sons out to eat and then to a play. It was nice to do something with just Mister Zeke, even if he was in a bit of a crabby mood! (He hasn't been sleeping well recently so that's made him a little crabbier during the day.)
  • I’m praying for…
Extended family members who are really struggling right now with a lot of different things. Keeping them in my prayers constantly.
  • A photo, video, link, or quote to share…
Ellie has also been enjoying doing her "skoo-work." Here she is doing some matching games and puzzles about the letter B.
