Addison Academy: September, Week Two

  • In my life this week…
Our house project is coming along. Don't plan on coming over just yet because everything is still kind of in disaster mode BUT we're hoping it will get done this weekend. Everything is looking pretty good.
  • In our homeschool this week…
We started a new chapter in Science on fossils. The kids enjoyed drawing pictures of dinosaurs and learning more about the different types. When we go to the library today, I'm hoping to find some different books about dinosaurs to incorporate what we're learning. We also got out some clay and after I had Zeke collect some leaves from outside, we made leaf prints. That was a big hit.

Zeke also enjoyed taking some time out from books and worksheets this week to play games with his sister. One day they picked out the Super Why ABC Letter Game and I was really impressed with how much Ellie has picked up on. I also realized we need to work on rhyming some more as it seems to be an area that Zeke struggles with.
  • Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
Zeke started soccer this week! We had practice twice and are gearing up for a weekend full of soccer-related activities and his first game. He's the oldest and tallest kiddo on his team because of the way his birthday fell. He's enjoying it and learning a lot of the basics which I think is always important in little kid sports.
  • My favorite thing this week was…
Receiving curriculum in the mail! That's always fun, isn't it? I got the Geography curriculum I won from Bright Ideas Press at a Twitter party a couple weeks ago. I can't wait to get started using it!
  • I’m cooking…
Ummm, not a whole lot since the kitchen is in shambles. (Due to aforementioned house project!) I actually took the kiddos to McDonald's for dinner last night on our way to soccer practice.
  • I’m grateful for…
Something else that happened on our way to soccer practice last night...the kids and I were driving the van down the highway when all of the sudden a HUGE hawk slammed into our windshield! It took me so much by surprise that I screamed pretty loudly. It came out of nowhere! It hit the windshield and flew up over the top of the van but when I looked back I didn't see it anywhere. I'm grateful that no one was hurt and that the van is unscathed. It was so big that I thought for sure it had busted or cracked. When I pulled over & examined it though, it had a few big scuff marks but was otherwise fine. Whew.
  • A photo, video, link, or quote to share…
  • Early morning visitors I received in my bed this week...

  2. I can't wait to hear how you like the new curriculum. We have been hitting geography pretty hard this year, so I'm curious to see how it goes for you.
