Addison Academy, End of September/Beginning of October

  • In my life this week…
I'm going to go ahead and cover the last few weeks as we've had lots of stuff going on. We've been busy every day it seems like with different activities: doctor appointments, errands in town, soccer games, field trips, church, etc. Zeke started coughing pretty badly late Wednesday night and still felt bad in the morning, so we had a "sick day" Thursday which was actually kind of nice - we just rested and relaxed. Towards the evening, he started to perk up a little but last night his coughing increased again and he still sounded rough today. So off to the doctor he & Daddy went. It is a sinus infection so hopefully that will clear up here within the next few days.

  • Our sick day - Ellie sorting socks, Zeke laying on the couch & in the evening we played a game.
  • In our homeschool this week…
School has been going pretty well! Two weeks ago we implemented some new curriculum and it is working splendidly. It's really changed up how we are doing our homeschool day and I can't wait to share my review of it...but it won't be up until the first of November so for now you'll just have to enjoy a picture or two. ;)
  • Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
This past week we went on a field trip to the fire station. We got to see the trucks, the rooms the firefighters live in while they're there, and the fire dog. (He was probably the kid's favorite part!) The kids really enjoyed it and I even learned some things too.

We also have been attending our weekly Art Club. The last week in September we had a lesson on watercolor painting that the kids really enjoyed. A local water color artist spoke, showed us her work, and gave the children a lesson.

This past week we made crafts for a local nursing home and are going to be delivering them next week. Zeke will be spending the day with a friend for his birthday so just Ellie and I will be going to that one.
  • My favorite thing this week was…
My midwife appointment! Those are always a lot of fun and they remind me of how time just keeps zipping along. She said at my next appointment we'll probably be able to check out what position the baby is in. The heartbeat was good and strong at this appointment which is always a good thing. I gained about two pounds. She also gave me some information on ordering my birth kit and list of things to have ready at our house - which really reminded me, "Hey, I'm having a homebirth - and it's not that far away!" Not that I'd forgotten...it just brought it back up in my mind. :)
  • What’s working/not working for us…
Soccer is almost over. Zeke has his last two games this weekend. He's had fun and learned a lot of basics which is what I think is good. However, I will be *super* glad to not have to listen to the obsessed parents who are screaming at the 5-7 year olds to: "COME ON! GET WITH IT!" Ugh.
  • I’m reading…
I just recently finished "The Hunger Games" trilogy. The first book was by far my favorite but the second and third were good as well. I can't wait to see the other movies. I'm getting ready to start "Birthing From Within" that I checked out from my midwife's library. :)
  • I’m cooking…
I made The Pioneer Woman's Comfort Meatballs and Creamy Mashed Potatoes the other night and oh my...they were delicious. It was my first attempt at homemade mashed potatoes (all by myself anyway, I've helped hubby & other family make them before) and they didn't turn out too bad. I've also made some really tasty desserts recently because I've had a craving for cake, cookies, etc. I'll have to post/link the recipes on here.
  • I’m grateful for…
I'm grateful that Zeke's sinus infection is just that - the way he was coughing in the night sounded like croup. (I hate croup!) I'm thankful for the weekend and time with my hubby. Also thankful that one of my family members came through surgery this week just fine and that she is on the road to recovery.
  • A photo, video, link, or quote to share…
  • My pumpkin girl! :)

  1. I've had seven children, and I still think midwife appointments are exciting! I've never had a homebirth, but I love reading about them. :-)

Your little girl is such a cutie!
