- I had a lot of Christmas-related posts in 2009 (some Christmas questions, some more Christmas questions) but nothing specifically about our family's Christmas except this post which basically says nothing. Hubby was unfortunately only going to be employed for a few more weeks - we didn't know that at the time, though. That was the start of our long season of unemployment. Zeke was a preschooler & Ellie was just a wee little thing who had been born that year in March. Overall, a pretty good year.
- The Christmas after that (2010) hubby was still looking for a job. But regardless, we had so been enjoying the time we'd been able to spend together as a family. Zeke got a new bike and he was so excited that he rode it around the living room. We spent a lot of time with family that holiday and lived through yet another crisis as mentioned here - which was a form of identity theft if you're curious, I never blogged about it and I won't go into detail now, but suffice to say it was a very stressful situation. That year - even with the unemployment - was a really great year for our family. We all grew a lot.
- Last Christmas (2011) hubby was newly unemployed. Now seriously...is there something about employers & letting people go around Christmas time?! However, we were hopeful. I was also worried around Christmas time about my Grandpa who had gotten bad news about the evil that is cancer. Sadly, he passed away this past April so this was our first Christmas without him - although...if he was alive he wouldn't be here either - he'd be calling us on Christmas Day from his camper in sunshiny Texas. :) I took one of my favorite pictures of Ellie that year.
So how was 2012? Well Hubby had a job then lost that job and got his old one back. Whew. He is gainfully employed now and for that I am very thankful. (He's also been working days recently - just temporarily - and it has been a really nice change.) The kids are growing like weeds. Ellie turned three this year and Zeke turned seven. We found out that we were expecting a little boy and he'll be making his arrival in just a few weeks! This Christmas was really nice. We have been spending a lot of time together as a family for the past week or so and also enjoying time spent with extended family. One of my favorite moments from this year was coming home after our Christmas Eve service at church and hubby reading "The Night Before Christmas" to the kids before we tucked them in for the night. I stayed up until the kids fell asleep so I could play Santa (around 2 or so, I think) and then Zeke woke me up at 7! (I was really surprised because he is ALWAYS a late sleeper on Christmas - but not this year!) Zeke was SO excited to see the item on the top of his list under the Christmas tree, as you can see in the black & white photo below. He and Ellie have been spending the past few days trying out and enjoying all the gifts they received. We have been very blessed!
