Homeschool Essentials - Spaces

This week I'm joining up with the Schoolhouse Review Crew to share my 5 Days of Homeschool Essentials. Today I'm going to be discussing homeschool spaces, a.k.a. where we homeschool!

Where we homeschool has changed a bit over the years - mostly the furniture has just shifted around, though! This is what this year has looked like for the most part and here is what 2011 looked like. (I guess I didn't do one for 2012!) We homeschool all over the house. We have a large dining room table that serves as our giant "desk" for most of our seated work. But occasionally we spread out to the living room to the rug or the couch. The living room rug is great for math manipulatives, puzzles, and the other more hands on things we do. And when the weather's nice we also like to go outside, spread out a blanket, and enjoy the sunshine.

The beauty of homeschooling - for us, anyway - is that it pretty much never stops, even if we're away from home. We've "done school" at the library, the park, the store, and in our vehicle. The park (at least in the summer, anyway) provides sunshine, a change of scenery, and a playground for "recess."  At the store, we can learn about math, budgeting, different types of food, and manners - being polite & respectful, taking turns, etc. Trips to the bank and other businesses also teach similar lessons.

  1. We're like you, we homeschool all over the house, and I wouldn't have it any other way! :)

    1. As much as I think having a specific "homeschool room" would be cool, I really enjoy being able to spread out too. :)
