Feature Friday - Don't Worry. Be Happy. Keep Learning

Every Friday here at Wonderfully Chaotic is Feature Friday where I showcase a different blog or business. If you're interested in being featured, send me an email {find it on my contact me page} and make the subject line "Q&A." (Featured blogs/businesses must abide by the rules of my ads & sponsors.)

Today's featured blog is written by Angela, who I met through an Indiana Bloggers group. She writes the blog Don't Worry. Be Happy. Keep Learning. When Angela first filled out the Q&A for me, she was expecting a baby girl...who I found out (after some Facebook stalking snooping) has since been born! Congratulations Angie & Mike on your new bundle of joy!

First off, tell me a little about yourself, your family, and your blog.
I am 29 years old, married to my best friend Mike and we are expecting our first child (a girl) in about a week, or however long she chooses to continue baking. We live in a small town in Northern Indiana. I work full time and blog in my free time (about once a week or so). My blog centers around my love of all things "new" to me. I love learning new things and I'm not afraid of a challenge. I enjoy baking, cooking, crafts, decorating, DIY projects, organization shortcuts and so many other things. On my blog, I present projects, recipes, etc. that I have tried, and I share about whether they were a success or a failure. Ultimately, it's all in the name of staying positive and expanding my skill sets in life.

Why did you start blogging? Has that changed any since then?
I began blogging as part of my 2012 New Year's resolution actually. My goal was to try new things in 2012. The blog was my platform for documenting my new adventures and sharing those with readers who shared similar interests. Now, 2 years later I am still trying new things and still loving it. I never want to stop learning or become stale. As we welcome our new baby girl, I'm sure the blog will change a bit. I'll most likely have more child-related posts, but ultimately the vibe will be the same, trying new things!

What do you blog about the most?
Recipes, crafts, decorating our home and DIY projects (I consider myself the handier one in our home.)

How did you decide on the name of your blog?
In addition to my 2012 resolution to try new things, I also wanted to further improve my attitude toward life. This is not to say I was a Negative Nancy, by any means, but there's always room for improvement in how we perceive our surroundings. While on the journey to try new things, I wanted to remain positive and focused on expanding my brain, learning as much as I could and keeping a positive attitude. I'm also a fan of Bob Marley's version of "Don't Worry, Be Happy" by Bobby McFerrin. So, "Don't Worry. Be Happy. Keep Learning." was it!

What are your top 3-4 blog posts, and why?
By far my highest viewed post is the one I wrote that included a photo of my friend's bathroom. Her father had rigged a storage device out of PVC pipe for her hair dryer and flat iron. The post itself is asking for input from my readers on what to blog about next, but the photo got a HUGE response. I thank Pinterest, mostly, for the popularity of that image spreading so quickly.

The second highest viewed post is my recipe for basic Mac & Cheese. It's my dumbed down version of a similar recipe I had seen online a while back. I believe the reason it's so popular is for two reasons. First, it's so basic and literally contains 3 ingredients. And second, it's not made from a box, something many people are trying to keep from doing and looking for recipes that are from scratch. That way you know what ingredients are in it, you put them there. Again, I know Pinterest played a big role in the spread of this post, as well.

Another popular post is my bathroom redo I did in our old house. We've since moved, but while we were fixing things up and trying to sell it, I took the liberty of sprucing up some things, including the bathroom vanity. I used a staining tutorial from a blog I was reading (referenced in my post) and applied her techniques to our bathroom to give it a facelift. I also redid our floor, removing the [not sure how old] carpet that was previously down. I was very proud of that project!

I also tried my hand at making a wooden sign that I'd seen on Etsy for a friend whose mom had recently passed away. A lot of times I'll see artwork for sale and think "I can make that" so I did. That blog post has gotten a very large response. I'm not sure if it's the saying or the process of making the sign that caught so much attention, but it's ranking in my top 5 posts still to this day. I broke down how I created the sign from start to finish with step by step instructions, like I usually do.

What is your blog's purpose?
The purpose of my blog is to share my experiences with trying new things. What has worked for me, what hasn't? How did I go about doing it? I think many readers like to see tutorials and learn how to accomplish projects and recipes on their own. If gives them (and me) a sense of accomplishment. If a recipe or a craft doesn't work out, I share that, too. They can't all be gems.

Anything else you'd like us to know?
I'm an open book and I enjoy sharing my successes and failures as I skip my way through life as a wife, a friend and a soon-to-be first time mama. I hope I can bring some knowledge to my readers and teach them a thing or two and help expand their horizons.
