How We Teach Spanish in our Homeschool

Over the years, I've tried to incorporate foreign language learning into our homeschool but I haven't been very successful. This year I learned about a program through a homeschooling website and immediately thought it sounded like something we could use. It's called Foreign Languages For Kids By Kids and MY kids are loving it! It is an extremely easy to use foreign language curriculum.

Our schedule for foreign language is very simple. Every other day or so the kids take about 10 minutes to watch a video lesson on the computer. The videos are very funny and they all feature kids doing every day things and using every day words in Spanish - playing games, eating breakfast, getting ready for school, talking to their siblings, etc. Zeke plays the online games, then he and Ellie review the flashcards together and play matching games with them. We utilized the stickers around our house and on things we didn't want to stick stickers on, I had the kids draw pictures of the item and then stick the sticker on that - it really helps for the kids to keep the words in mind and see them used practically.

So Spanish doesn't take a lot of time out of our day but the kids are still picking up on it. They (and I!) enjoy it because it's short and sweet - but still thorough enough to stick!
