Consumer Safety Product Recalls & Information
It can be difficult to learn about products that are recalled - I think the few times we've had it happen, I've learned about it in passing from a family member or friend who just happened to see it in a random news article! I'm pretty diligent about filling out the product recall cards we get with new items but I know I've missed some here or there.
ConsumerSafety.org approached me recently and asked if I'd share some information about their website. It's a complete resource with safety guides, important consumer news, and the latest information on product recalls. Check out their Infant & Child Safety Guide - it has lots of good tips and ideas on making sure your home is safe for your children, as well as the outdoors and while on the go.
A lot of parents (myself included!) like to use Craigslist, Facebook groups, and eBay to purchase used but good condition items for their kids. The Consumer Safety website can help you to check on alerts and recalls for items like strollers, car seats, and other items before purchasing them. You can search by the item name, model number, or browse different categories,
Just recently, McDonald’s announced that they were recalling 29 Million Step-iT Activity Wristbands after there were more than 70 reports of incidents from children wearing the bands. Other recent recalls and alerts include L.L. Bean water bottles and Enlightened Mint Chip Ice Cream, You can get all the up to date information on ConsumerSafety.org. You can also find them on Facebook and Twitter.
