About

Hello there! I'm Shay and I'm the owner/creator of Wonderfully Chaotic. I've been blogging on and off since 2004. I use to blog on LiveJournal, then on Wordpress, and I finally decided to move here to Blogger in 2009 for a variety of reasons, one being a blog name change. At my previous blog, people were mistakenly coming to the blog because of a poem with the same name and it just made it terribly confusing. I also wanted to have a blog name that was more...well, me. I consulted with the hubby and we decided that Wonderfully Chaotic described us pretty darn well. :)

So, a little bit more about me. I'm now officially "thirty-something" and I spend my days taking care of my home and teaching kiddos. I've been married for almost 13 crazy & wonderful years to my handsome hubby. Our relationship has been a whirlwind and we've experienced a lot of good & bad things but I wouldn't trade it for anything else. He's the hardest working man I know.

And speaking of children...we have seven beautiful kiddos!

Jazmyne (Jazzy) - 16 years old. Husband's daughter/my stepdaughter. Loves music, painting nails, reading, makeup, and country girl stuff. Finishing up the last few years of High School.
Ezekiel (Zeke) - 12 years old. Loves history, Doctor Who, presidents, Legos, reading, baseball - especially the Cubs, Star Wars, and mystery stories.
Elisha (Ellie) - 8 years old. Loves My Little Pony, animals of all kinds - especially dogs and horses, soccer, playing games, Legos, and talking! Wants to be a vet.

Zachariah (Zac Attack) - 4 years old. Loves everything to do with trains of all kinds, his stuffed cat "Mow," the letter W, the color yellow, and being LOUD! Wants to be a train conductor or engineer.
Hezekiah (Hezzy Sam) - 2 years old. Loves everything Paw Patrol, firetrucks, trains, jumping, and copying his brother Zac. Wants to be a fireman.
Elizabeth (Betty/Betsy) - 1 and 1/2 years old. Loves stuffed animals, blankets, shoes, getting into things, and giving people sassy looks.
Hannah Ruth (Hanny) - 6 months old. The happiest baby in the world. Loves smiling, giggling, and watching her brothers & sisters.

Some of the topics I discuss on our blog are:

- Our home and family life: Our family lives in the cornfields of rural Indiana. We have at one time or another had: dogs, cats, chickens, rabbits, and assorted woods-related wildlife living at our house. Currently we just have one lazy hound dog. I write about being a stay at home mom, homemaking, organization and minimalism, marriage, and motherhood.

- Homeschooling: We've been homeschooling since my oldest son was in preschool and it's a great learning experience, not only for the kids but me as well. I am currently homeschooling sixth grade, third grade, and two little preschoolers. We are continually learning through books, play, work, and life. I discuss the challenges and issues we've faced, but also the joys and everyday fun we experience too.

- "Crunchy" Stuff: Although I don't really like labels, I do tend to dabble in alternative things when it comes to parenting. Breastfeeding, cosleeping, babywearing, homebirth, cloth diapering - I've done them all at one point in time or another! Don't let that scare you off though...I've also used disposable diapers, formula fed, and birthed in the hospital. I'm not militant about my beliefs at all, I just like sharing my experiences. I write about pregnancy and birth a lot because not only have I been pregnant quite a few times, but also because I'm a doula. (A doula is a trained pregnancy, labor and delivery, and/or postpartum support person.)

- Large Family Living: We are currently a family of nine - two adults and seven kids. As our family has grown, I've learned that life is different when you have lots of littles, and consequently I've started to blog about things related to living with and maintaining a large family.

- Writing and Blogging: I've been blogging and writing for quite awhile so I sometimes share tips & tricks I've learned and things that I'm working on. With "all these kids" my writing can be sporadic - especially when there's a new baby - but I've gotten better at time management. If you're interested, you can read more about my writing here.

- My Hobbies and Interests: I've been a proud geek for a long time and love all things sci-fi/fantasy: Star Wars, Star Trek (yes you can like both!), Lord of the Rings, and Battlestar Galactica are my top favorites. My favorite TV shows are The Big Bang Theory, The Walking Dead, Sherlock and Mad Men. I like playing D&D when my little group of adventurers can find time to get together. I'm a huge bookworm & read a LOT. I like listening to most types of music. I don't delve into politics *too* much on here but I tend to lean conservatively.

- My Faith: I was raised in the church (daughter of a pastor) and try to trust God in every area of my life. I pray for him to use me and make me a blessing. We attend a church and are involved there in different groups/activities. I am not perfect and I have my day to day struggles like everyone else but ultimately I strive to be more like Jesus.

So there you have it! That's pretty much all there is to know. My life is Wonderfully Chaotic and I wouldn't trade it for anything else in the world. :) If you'd like to search the blog for something specific, please see the search bar at the top of the blog or check out the categories listed in the sidebar.
