May has always been a busy month for me. This year in addition to our normal activities and my babysitting job, my birthday and Mother's Day fell on the same weekend. They usually are pretty close together but not always. My Mom told me when I was born she got to bring me home from the hospital on Mother's Day!
Birthdays aren't really a huge deal for me and I definitely don't feel any different...although since I'm 24 now I guess I'll soon be out of the 18 - 24 age category you get asked about on surveys and things! :-D It is nice to be celebrated though.
On Friday, I went shopping with my Mom, my Aunt and my daughter. We ate at Olive Garden and got some great deals at Fashion Bug. I got a new purse and matching wallet (thanks Dad!) and some new clothes. My mom and aunt were fashion advisers for the day. :) As I've mentioned previously, this is the year of weddings and I now have some new fabulous dresses to wear to them! One of them my hubby and I think is very fifties-esque and I am just in love with it. I've got some cute (fake) pearls to wear with it and I'm on the hunt for a cheap pair of pumps. Or I may just wear my white low heeled shoes.
Mother's Day was pretty nice for me as well. Our church service was very nice and they gave all the mothers some beautiful flowers. My son made me a super cute card in children's church and gave me another card after we got home that was signed by him and our chickens. :) My hubby and kids took me out to lunch at one of our favorite Mexican places and then we spent the rest of the day with family at my Grandma's house. My parents got me an ice cream cake for my birthday that was shaped like a pink purse! It was adorable. I'm a very lucky momma and daughter! :)

Baby's First Birthday
Exactly one year ago today, my baby girl was born! It's been quite an experience, going from being a mother of one to being a mother of two - but I would not trade it for anything. Ellie is her own little unique person. She likes bopping around to music and loves her brother unconditionally. It doesn't seem like she ever stops eating! And yet, she is still so petite. She is very sensitive and always a diva. It's her way or the highway, buddy! :) My son is the ham, she is the serious one. She's more cautious around people and hesitant to be too far away from me. She loves exploring, though and will gladly crawl all over the house. She's been lovingly called Ellie, Babe-a, Witty Bitty Babe and Crab Cakes. She is my little sweetie and I can't wait to see what the next year holds for us! ♥

Birthday Card Crafting
Who had the brilliant idea to make my little girl's birthday invitations by hand? Oh wait, that was me. :) It actually wasn't that bad - just very time consuming! I got the idea when we visited a local Amish store and the lady behind the counter was making cards by hand. They sell them in the store and have just about any kind you could want. They use different types of paper, colored pencils and stamps to make them. So I bought one of their little stamping kits and it's really pretty neat. It was also a pretty good deal - $8 for a stamp pad, 8 stamps and colored pencils. I know I'll use it for other craft projects too. I used some card stock for the invitations and cut around the edges with my scrapbooking scissors. I colored both sides and then decorated the front with the stamps and some stickers. Hubby printed off info for the back telling where the party was, what date and time, etc. It did take longer than just buying some cards from the store and filling them out but it was a fun project and each one is a little different. It will be something neat to put in Ellie's baby book too.
